mentale auszeit
We spend the second most time at work after sleeping. We should also take care of mental health at work. Through this project, I want to show a solution approach for three identified problems frequently (Burn-out, mixing of professional and private life, and lack of motivation) caused by working remotely more and more. The platform offers a mental time-out for workers and encourages them to work more productive, positive, and healthy.
The world of work is constantly changing and has changed especially rapidly since the Corona Pandemic.
Many people still work remotely. They find it hard to concentrate and lack satisfaction from their achievements.
We all should get more used to working independently of time and place.
1) Burn-out
A recent survey of more than 1,000 professionals by Robert Half in 2020 shows that 37% of them have
worked more than usual since the Corona pandemic and are on the verge of Burn-out.
2) Mixing professional and private life
According to the news article, many people complain that they can't get a good rest by working remotely.
We often think about tasks we need to complete at work, even though we're having breakfast with our
families. It means we are not good at switching between home and work mode. This vicious circle causes
more stress and a mix of time at work and home.
3) Lack of motivation
By working from home, we encounter problems such as communication barriers, and technical errors more often than
in the office. The statistic
shows that we are less motivated when working at home. However, the most common reason we feel less motivated
is the lack of recognition and praise, such as from the supervisor. These are the best motivation for employees
on the job. When the platform
"Kraftwerk Anerkennung" surveyed 200 employees in Germany on how often they get praised at work, 60% of
respondents received praise only once a month or even less frequently. 9 out of 10 respondents would like more win praise.
A digital platform (web/app) that allows workers to care for mental health in daily life and work better.
- People who can or have to work from home
- People who are challenged mentally due to the mixing of professional and private life
- People who need motivation at work
- People who need inner peace before working and want to have a good start at work
- People who do not want to carry negative energy or thoughts into their private life after working
The platform consists of a total of 5 themes. HOME / MEDITATION / PRAISE / WISHING STAR / CONTACT
Meditation reduces stress and helps us exist more balanced, relaxed, and healthy. Studies on the effects of meditation on health have been around for a long time, and brain research has also been increasingly looking at the effectiveness of meditation on people in recent years. Meditation lifts our mood, increases our ability to concentrate, and makes our thinking clearer. Studies show that five minutes of daily meditation has a positive effect on mental health. Meditation does not always have to take place on a yoga mat all day. That means we can meditate at any time and anywhere. Just take five minutes before and after work.
Meditation takes place with visual factors because they are easy for everyone to understand and access. Waves are used as a metaphor for meditation because our soul could be imagined as the waves in a sea. Waves can be influenced easily by the environment and they are sometimes high and destructive, but sometimes calm. A beginner can follow meditation with the animation but also close their eyes and meditate if they get used to it. If someone wants to see only visual factors and hear the voice, they can meditate without subtitles. Otherwise, we can also meditate without voice.
For example, "I know how hard this project is, but I can't imagine working without you.", "I just want you to know how much you mean to our team.", "You've made a huge difference here, and I'm grateful you're part of this team.", "You're one of the most reliable employees I've ever had.", "Thank you for being so flexible. We couldn't have done it without you.", "I admire your great attitude - even during this tough time.".
Many people wish upon a shooting star. The background is the night sky with stars without numbers. We can write down our wish anonymously, then it becomes a star and remains in space. There we can see not only our wishes but also other wishes.
The first shape like a building is to symbolize a house and a company. That is our personal and professional life. An element like a wave or wind goes through the places where we live and work. This shows that a mental healthcare such as fresh air makes our life more stable. Because the purpose of work is mental healthcare for workers, I included "AUSZEIT" abstractly in the logo. Also, I want to convey a relaxed and calm overall impression rather than a dynamic and fierce one. The soft shapes support the relaxing feeling and invite you to take "mentale auszeit".
Most lives of modern people are very busy and full of stress. Sometimes they need a time-out to take care of themselves and recharge. For this, we should consciously schedule free time in our daily lives. For this exact purpose this platform was built. In other words, MEDITATION is a place where we can pause for a moment before and after work to look at ourselves and get rid of our unnecessary thoughts. PRAISE is a place where we can fill ourselves with good energy and motivate ourselves. WISHING STAR is a place where we can express our deep story. Finally, the platform offers a mental time-out for employees and contributes to their mental health so that we can work more productively and healthier.
This project was a formidable challenge for me, because I developed the platform at first learning web programming.
Nevertheless, I wanted to create a practical and interactive platform myself
instead of just a conceptual design. Through this project, I bring knowledge of HTML, CSS, and
JavaScript and could gain experience in web programming. In addition, I bought a domain and hosted the project
as a website. I was able to identify the key principles for designing across devices and screen sizes and understand
the differences between responsive mobile web apps and dedicated mobile apps.
I went through many trial and errors. However, my repeated experiences convince me that I can actualize my ideas again and better.
